Acupuncture treatment in patients with mild neurotrauma

Introduction: natural and Traditional Medicine is the set of practices or medicines, which are used to prevent, diagnose or alleviate physical and mental imbalances. The Acupuncture modality is an effective and safe therapy in the treatment of symptoms in mild neurotrauma. Objective: to evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment in patients with mild neurotrauma treated at the neurosurgery service of the Miguel Enriquez Hospital. Methods: a quasi-experimental, mixed prospective longitudinal study was carried out during the period June 2022 to June 2023, in a probabilistic sample selected by simple random sampling of 100 patients treated with mild neurotrauma in the neurosurgery on-call service of the Miguel Enriquez Hospital. The sample was divided into two groups of 50 patients each; group A with acupuncture treatment, and group B with conventional medical treatment. Results: headache prevailed in 50% of patients in both study groups. Group A was the one with the fastest relief of symptoms in the short term in 62% of patients and was the one with the least economic expense. Group B relieved symptoms in 44% of cases in the medium term. Conclusion: the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment in patients with mild neurotrauma was evaluated, which showed short-term relief of symptoms with less economic expense for the patients.
