Debido al aumento y reaparición de las enfermedades transmisibles sobre todo de las vías digestivas, nos dimos a la tarea de realizar esta revisión bibliográfica con el objetivo de identificar el germen que con mayor frecuencia es el causante de las mismas. Se revisaron revistas y libros médicos de los últimos años, en los cuales se trataban estos temas. Los resultados obtenidos evidencian que la primera causa de lesiones gastrointestinales se debe en su mayoría a la presencia del Helicobacter pylori. El conocimiento de las características clínicas y epidemiológicas de este agente causal y su diagnóstico temprano permite y favorece el manejo adecuado del paciente con la consiguiente calidad de vida que esto le aporta.
