Essential aspects of health economics

Introduction: Health economics promotes the optimal use of resources for the treatment and prevention of diseases. Objective: Describe essential aspects of health economics. Method: To carry out this research, a search of scientific literature was carried out at the University of Medical Sciences of Camagüey, during the last quarter of 2023. To do so, articles indexed in the databases Scopus, SciELO, Redalyc were consulted, DOAJ and Latindex. The review was made up of four phases: planning, design-management, analysis, and elaboration-formalization. Development: The cost includes the purchase of inputs, payment of labor, production and administrative expenses. Meanwhile, health quality is measured by the degree of patient satisfaction with any episode of illness or admission to a hospital. They are essential tools that maintain optimal standards throughout the healthcare process. It refers to the resources, activities and results derived from people's participation in the workplace. It is carried out through structure, process and results indicators that are linked to the production of the service. Conclusions: The knowledge and application of health economics at each of its management levels is of great relevance for the formulation of public health policies. In this sense, it is also of vital importance in the planning of system resources, the regulation and evaluation of services and the issuance of health technology recommendations.
