Information gap on breast fibroadenoma: study of cuban scientific production

Introduction: breast fibroadenoma is a benign condition that accounts for 26% of breast pathologies in young women and 10% in the general population. Due to its high incidence, it is necessary to deepen the studies related to this condition, so a bibliometric study will be carried out to know the research aimed at this health problem in Cuba. Objective: to describe the scientific production on breast fibroadenoma in Cuban scientific journals. Method: a bibliometric study of the scientific production on breast fibroadenoma, published in Cuban scientific journals of medical sciences from 1970 to June 2024, was carried out. Bibliometric indicators of productivity, impact and collaboration were used. The tools Visual Studio Code, Scimago Graphica and Microsoft Excel were used for the processing and presentation of the information. Results: from 1978 to 2024 only 15.7% of the journals analyzed had publications related to the topic, for a total of 12 scientific articles, which on average received 3.75 citations, with an h index of four and only three publications had more than five citations. It should be noted that during the periods from 1990 to 2000 and from 2021 to June 2024, no publications related to the topic were made. Conclusions: the study revealed a limited scientific production on breast fibroadenoma in Cuba compared to other health research.
