Algunos aspectos actuales sobre el manejo de la Enfermedad de Alzheimer por el profesional de Enfermería.

Abstract

La enfermedad de Alzheimer es una enfermedad degenerativa progresiva del cerebro caracterizado por la desorientación y la pérdida de memoria, de atención y de la capacidad de raciocinio y  se considera la primera causa de demencia en la vejez. El objetivo que se propuso el autor está encaminado a profundizar en algunos aspectos sobre el manejo y toma de decisión del profesional de Enfermería en el cuidado de los pacientes con la enfermedad del Alzheimer.

Se consultaron los trabajos de varios autores nacionales e internacionales que han profundizado en este tema. La sistematización realizada permitió esclarecer la importancia de un consumo moderado de cafeína lo cual puede  proteger el cerebro de la pérdida de memoria durante el proceso normal de envejecimiento, al margen de otros factores como la dieta y el ejercicio, lo que contribuiría para la evaluación de la memoria en pacientes con esta afección. Se confirmó además que el profesional de  enfermería  mediante el Proceso de Atención de Enfermería puede realizar determinadas acciones que le permitan valor la evolución y valoración de la facultad de decisión en los pacientes ancianos.
