Cola dural por resonancia magnética

Introducción: Los signos imagenológicos los consideramos como nemotécnicos, ya que por sí mismos nos permiten crear asociaciones de forma sistemática para reconocerlos, según un caso concreto. La cola dural fue descrito por primera vez en 1989 en relación con el meningioma, consistente en un engrosamiento y realce de la duramadre tras la administración de contraste que presenta igual o mayor realce que el tumor, se afila conforme se aleja de éste y debe verse en dos o más cortes contiguos por resonancia magnética y no se trata de una infiltración tumoral. Objetivos: Describir la semiología y características fundamentales de la cola dural en tumores intra y extraaxiales. Métodos: Se utilizaron fuentes de búsquedas avaladas, revisando y analizando referencias mediante el estudio de 51 artículos seleccionados en revistas y publicaciones electrónicas indexadas en español que estuvieran actualizadas en el tema en los últimos dos años, de las que se tomaron 21 por su carácter científico. Resultados: La cola dural no está presente solamente en los tumores extraaxiales y puede estar bordeando el tumor, además de verse no solamente en tumores cerebrales sino también del canal raquídeo. Conclusiones: La cola dural es distintivo de los meningiomas como principal tumor extraaxial pero puede observarse en lesiones intraparenquimatosas cerebrales y resulta un elemento semiológico importante que se evidencia mejor por resonancia magnética resultando de gran valor orientativo en su diagnóstico.
