State of the information management of the Natural and Traditional Medicine indicator system

Introduction: the actions aimed at managing the information of the Natural and Traditional Medicine Indicators system required a diagnosis that would allow the identification of deficiencies to work on improvement through the potential detected. Objective: diagnose the status of information management of the Natural and Traditional Medicine Indicators system. Method: a descriptive study was carried out with a population of 35 graduates in Health Information Systems, who processed the Statistical Information System of Indicators of Natural and Traditional Medicine in the province of Ciego de Ávila. Instruments such as scientific observation and a survey were applied. The variable "Information Management of the Natural and Traditional Medicine Indicator System" was parameterized in three dimensions: knowledge, methodology and attitudinal, with a total of 11 indicators. Results: the results showed that, in scientific observation, the three dimensions studied are not observed in more than 57% of the study population. In the survey applied, the methodological and knowledge dimensions were evaluated as poorly adequate by 50% and 57% respectively. However, the assessment of inadequateness in the attitudinal dimension predominated in 74% of those surveyed. Conclusions When diagnosing the initial state of information management in the Natural and Traditional Medicine Indicators system, the need to develop a manual that guarantees improvement in the management of said information was identified.
