Characterization of the information management of the system “Selected Indicators of Older Adults”

Introduction: The objective of the Selected Elderly Indicators Statistics Information System is to obtain statistical information that allows evaluating the purposes of the National Program for Comprehensive Care for Elderly People and to know indicators related to the movement of people housed in Social Assistance units. This information is of great importance today, since population aging constitutes the main demographic challenge in Cuba, therefore, it is necessary to take actions aimed at improving the management of this system. Objective: characterization of the initial state of the management process of the SIE Selected Elderly Indicators in the Directorate of Medical Records and Health Statistics. Method: a descriptive study was carried out at the DRMES between February 2023 and June 2024. The study universe consisted of 2,634 subjects, including registrars, producers and users of the information collected by the SIE Selected Elderly Indicators in Havana, and a sample of 20 subjects. The instruments were developed and validated, and the variable under study was parameterized: "information management of the SIE Selected Indicators of the Elderly in the DRMES", with three dimensions and eight indicators to be evaluated. Results: the state of the variable in general is adequate in 50%, slightly inadequate in 15% and inadequate in 35%. Conclusions: half of the users studied evaluated the initial state of the management process of the SIE Selected Indicators of the Elderly in the Directorate of Medical Records and Health Statistics between slightly adequate and inadequate. An inventory of problems and potential aspects to be taken into account in the preparation of the Manual that is proposed for the improvement of the process was made.
