Abstract

Introducción: La violencia es un creciente problema de salud pública como lo demuestran los aumentos en las tasas de mortalidad, morbilidad y discapacidad. Objetivo: Describir la violencia en la mujer   de Santa Rosa de Copán, Honduras. Material y Métodos: Se realizó  una  investigación descriptiva, retrospectiva durante todo el año  2007. El  universo lo integraron 302  mujeres  que  acudieron  a la Oficina de Atención a la Mujer en esa municipalidad  y dieron su consentimiento informado de participar en la investigación. A las mismas se les aplicó   un cuestionario por personal previamente entrenado, que recoge diferentes variables.  Resultados: Predominó la violencia en  las  mujeres de 25-29 años, procedentes del área  rural, con  un nivel  escolar primario. La  mayor incidencia estuvo en la violencia física  manifestada por la agresión con manos u otros objetos. Conclusiones: Las mujeres estudiadas de  Santa Rosa de Copán  están sometidas a la tendencia machista propia de una sociedad  patriarcal que subordina a la mujer, considerándola inferior, ejecutando   la violencia física  como principal forma de  agredirla.
