Diagnosis of the management of the mortality information system in Ciego de Ávila, Cuba

Introduction: mortality statistics are essential for generating reliable health reports. The Complementary Statistical Information Subsystem on Mortality allows the evaluation of various quality of life indicators using specific methodologies. Objective: to diagnose the initial state of information management of the Complementary Statistical Information Subsystem on Mortality in Ciego de Ávila during the first half of 2024. Method: A descriptive study was conducted with 43 information managers. Data collection was carried out through scientific observation and in-depth interviews. Results: between 47.6% and 67.5% of the managers did not exhibit knowledge, methodological application, or professional performance. In the interview, between 46.5% and 58.2% reported a low level in all dimensions. Conclusions: The initial diagnosis reveals deficiencies in knowledge, methodologies, and professional performance, and highlights the need for urgent actions for training and process improvement, thus guaranteeing the quality and reliability of statistical mortality information.
